Tver State Medical University History :- 

1935-40

There was an order issued in 1935 by the People’s Commissariat of Health of the RFSR to establish a network of mental dental institutes. In 1936, a higher education was created – the Leningrad state dental institute. During the 1936 – 37 years alone, a total 90 dentists underwent training and received a diploma as a dentist. The institute was situated in the very center of Leningrad (Nevsky Prospekt, 46). Moreover, the house was built again after the order of the Moscow Merchant Bank in 1904 by the architect named L.N. Benoit. 

• Initially, the institution had a dental complex with 45 dental chairs, training room, auditorium, and enough space for 25 departments.

•  The strength of the first batch was 150 students with a training period of 4 years. 

• The Leningrad dental institute trained dentists in therapeutic, surgical, and orthopedic industry, trained students for what they were interested in. 

1941 – 45 

We were part of the second world war from the side of Russia. On April 8, 1942, the Leningrad dental institute was evacuated to Krasnoyarsk. From the first day of war, we helped the wounded soldiers from the front. Some institute’s staff not only treated the wounded but also engaged in scientific activities.  The head of department – I.A Bagelman, with other scientists continued to work on the prevention and to save from the complication from gunshot wounds. Also, work on the clinic, diagnosis, and treatment. 

1949-1950

 The 1949 to 1950 academic year was the most important duration for the academic years, the period of study was increased to 5 years. This duration was the arrival of medical graduation years, and the admission was granted to 200 people. And, it was headed by the professor, head of the department – R.I gavrilov for educational and scientific work at leningrad institute was handed to the professor, I.S kudrin, and after dean – M.D Dubov. That was the year 20 professors, 16 associate professors, 60 assistants, including 28 candidates of science. Also, the clinical base expanded to the – A dental clinic to 65 dental chairs and a hospital to 60 Beds. 

During this period, the institute’s activities expanded to the northern capital, where scientific and pedagogical personnel were actively trained. 

• In 1950, P.V Naumov defended his first candidate’s  dissertation in dentistry after the war. The medical Dental institute trained 1512 doctors before transferring to kalinin. 

1954 – 58 

 On July 1, a resolution passed by the Council of Ministers authorized the signing of an agreement by N.S. Khrushchev, the First Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee, and G.M. Malenkov, the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR. This agreement, effective from July 10, 1954, facilitated the reorganization of the Leningrad State Medical Dental Institute into the Kalinin State Medical Institute. The extensive amount of work was done by the team of the same minded person : I.S kudrin, who became the first rector and for educational and scientific work (1954 to 1956).  During the formation of the institute in Kalinin, all efforts were aimed at creating a medical base and establishing a staff faculty and laboratory staff of the department. 

• Among the thirteen departments of the institute were eight professors, seven associate professors, and 27 assistants, out of which 16 were candidates for medical degrees. 

 1962 – 1974  

The year 1962 was special for the Tver State Medical University, the institute became one of the first in Russia” started providing training of doctors for students belonging to foreign countries. IN Asia, Africa and Latin America (rector A.N. Kushnev, 1958-1964). Tver State Medical was being applauded by the foreign students and we witnessed the growth and expansion in the enrollment of numbers of students. ( 350 people in the medical faculty, 200 in the dental faculties, 50 foreign students).

• In 1965, the scientific council of the institute was granted the right to accept dissertations for the defense of the scientific degree. 

• A theoretical teaching program was started in 1972.

• The institute has been training at the newly built regional clinical hospital with 1,100 beds since 1974.
